Fishing Report – August 8, 2019

Expect temperatures in the low 80’s this weekend, slight variable winds and a slight chance of rain.
Bass fishing patterns have been stable, anglers are finding fish in shaded lay-downs and under docks, casting wacky rig worms like The General 5” Worm by Berkley under lay-downs or docks allows the lure to get further back in the cover. Anglers that are fishing deep are catching fish in 12 to 18 ft of water on different bait imitations like the 3.75” Finesse Salt Tubes by Venom Lures or a dropshot rigged with a Drag N Drop 4” Finesse Worm by Googan Baits.
River smallmouth fishing is increasing as water levels in the river are starting to get lower, anglers are finding the best concentration of fish near dams early in the morning. Fishing an Azuma Popper Z Topwater Bait by Profound Outdoors early in the morning can provide a great opportunity to catch aggressive smallmouth.
Salmon and trout fishing have picked up and anglers are starting to catch more trout and salmon in 100 to 160 ft of water. Trout are still being caught on yellow or green Spin-N-Glo’s, while salmon are being caught on various lures such as spoons, flies and Meat Head Cut Bait Rig by Dreamweaver.
The Grand River near Grand Rapids is producing some steelhead, anglers have caught steelhead on float rigs or casting lures like the Oslo Spinner or the Little Cleo.
