If you would like to try for some November bass fishing action, check out Portage Lake and Gull Lake. These fish seem to be feeding up for the winter. Good baits have been Venom Big Shot Tubes, 10-inch Power Worms, Gulp Minnows, Strike King Zeros fished wacky style, and Rapala X-Raps.
A few anglers have had some good luck perch fishing out on Gun Lake. These fish are hanging around points in 8 to 12 feet of water. One fisherman landed 44 perch this week, ranging from 9 to 11 inches. Minnows and wigglers just off the bottom work well.
Pier fishermen at St. Joe are doing well on the whitefish. Salmon eggs and wax worms are taking fish up to 20 inches in length. The limit is 12 whitefish per day. The best times to be out there are between 8 am and 11 am.
In the St. Joe River some steelhead are being caught but it is a little slow. Spawn is working best up near the Berrien Springs Dam.
In the Kalamazoo River, steelhead fishing is a little better. From the M-89 bridge up to the Allegan Dam, boaters and shore fishermen are catching steelhead, a few walleye and some catfish. Spawn is working well but a few anglers are catching them on wax worms and plugs as well.
Reports of bluegill action are coming in from Little Fish Lake, Muskrat Lake, Barton Lake, School Section Lake, Baseline Lake and Fish Lake. Wax worms, spikes and red worms are taking bluegills in the 8 to 9 inch range.
